JUST five months ago, Alex Higgins was in Grimsby for one of his final shows.

The Hurricane visited Grimsby Auditorium for a Stars of Snooker exhibition match against Jimmy White.

Covering the event for the Telegraph on the night was sports writer Lee Jones, who recalled his meeting with the legendary player.

He said: “After a long wait, I was finally ushered into the Hurricane’s dressing room for a quick pre-match interview.

“Having grown up watching Higgins swagger around the table and play the game with an effortless grace, his appearance came as a shock.

“He was a shadow of his former self – probably weighing nothing more than six or seven stone and looking unrecognisable from his heyday in the 70s and 80s.

“His speech was quiet – almost inaudible – and his answers to my questions were short and abrupt. A man who had thrived in the limelight decades earlier seemed ill-at-ease with the attention.

“In the Auditorium, he was given a heroes’ welcome by the Grimsby public and thrilled the spectators with one or two glimpses of his trademark potting.

“Despite that, it was incredibly sad to see how much the great man had deteriorated.”

But then that may have more to do with my own air sign energy fanning the flames, which begs the question; is your partner a Gemini, Libra or Aquarius? If they are you may want to ask them to switch their ears on, to actually hear what you’re saying rather than reading what they think you might be saying.

Confusion over who wants what regardless of your other half’s sign is the single biggest hold-up this month. From the 21st, Saturn’s steady hand needs to know which direction you’re heading in. Single Arians shouldn’t be surprised by the move of someone at work, it has been bubbling under for ages, but are you going to let it boil over? From the 27th, Mercury is offering the gift of the gab to those who need to gab their way into Cupid’s lovely gifts.

MONEY & WORK All of your money corners are remarkably clean this month, Aries, what have you been up to and can you share your secrets? The lack of planets means lack of interference and looking at the mistress of money, Venus. For you she seems to be saying “sorted thank you very much”. It’s not about cash raining down on you from on high, though Jupiter’s happy pounds Jupiter’s happy mood until the 23rd could help out there, it’s about putting more effort in at work and getting yourself sorted – if you’d rather not see another month where you are. Your working life is doing very well thank you and if you feel it is isn’t, perhaps my old maths teacher Ms Synott could help; must try harder. The sums add up.
